Action day with presentation of the fair dividers
A sustainability project takes shape
The Fairteiler project is entering its final phase. On February 25, the completed food distribution stations will be set up at two locations in Dresden and officially handed over. Our cooperation partners are the City of Dresden for the location at Skaterpark on Lingner-Allee, the SLUB for the location at August-Bebel-Straße 18 and - as the operator of both stations - foodsharing e.V.
With the seminar, the Chair of Architectural Design and Construction II is pursuing the goal of making a sustainable contribution against food waste. To this end, the project will be carried out in the form of a Design_Build workshop, which will also give students the opportunity to realize their own designs.
After the students had dealt with the basics of food waste and distribution stations in the first half of the semester, two of the seven resulting designs were selected at the end of the year. The new year began with intensive research and the detailed elaboration of the selected designs. In addition to specific topics relating to the timber constructions, the focus was also on aspects relating to the foundations of the buildings, the selection of fasteners and wood protection. Individual solutions were also developed for the roof, doors and drawers. Every detail had to be precisely thought through and documented in the form of drawings, as it must be clearly defined what - and above all how - is to be produced for the construction in the wood workshop.
Since mid-January, the first group has been working in the workshop to realize the two fairground dividers on a 1:1 scale. At the same time, the other course participants are developing further details, creating additional necessary drawings, procuring materials and preparing advertising materials and documentation. In addition, models and mock-ups are built and the second final location is determined.
Announcement:
On the day of action on February 25, 2025, the Fair Dividers will be officially put into use at their location as part of a small presentation and a first filling. We cordially invite all interested parties to attend.
The event starts at 15:00 in the community garden of the SLUB branch library at August-Bebel-Straße 18.
The program includes a short review of the seminar, as well as the presentation and the first filling of the Fairteilers set up there. Afterwards, we will end the semester together over a refreshing drink.
