Excursion to the "Gläserne Manufaktur" on 04.07.2019
This year's excursion of the Chair of Industrial Management took place on 04.07.2019. A total of 25 students and employees of the chair visited the "Gläserne Manufaktur", which belongs to Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH, in the heart of Dresden.
In the first half of the excursion, we took a guided tour through the exhibition and production area of the factory. We were able to take a look at studies and concept cars from the Volkswagen brand and got a close-up impression of the production of the e-Golf, which has been manufactured at the Dresden site since 2017. For example, we were able to marvel at the fully automated installation of the headliner, a world first. This production step was tested in the "Transparent Factory" during the ongoing production process and is now being used in other VW Group plants.
In addition to a production facility for automobiles, the Dresden site serves as a showcase for electromobility and digitalization, which is why the tour was followed by an interesting and informative workshop on the topic of the "Future of Mobility" in the plant's own campus. Ronny Schulz (Assistant to the Management Board) illustrated the Group's planned transformation towards electromobility and gave us the opportunity to discuss the new ID. model family, drive technologies and innovative mobility concepts.
