The third calendar page of the HERstory calendar features Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Ingeborg Wilfert can be found. She was born in Dresden on March 1, 1939 and studied cartography at the Technische Hochschule Dresden after graduating from high school. After completing her studies, she worked at the Dresden Topographical Service and then took up a position as a trainee in the Geodesy and Cartography section at TU Dresden before working as an assistant at the Institute of Cartography from 1975.
In 1976, she successfully completed her doctorate in cartography and from then on devoted herself to research. Her core research areas were reproduction and printing technology, map production technology and later also digital cartography.
From 1992 to 2004, Ingeborg Wilfert was appointed Professor of Map Technology at the Institute of Cartography at TU Dresden, making her the first female professor in the field of environmental sciences. From 1994 to 1997, she also served as Director of the Institute.
With her innovative research, she made a significant contribution to the modernization of her field of research. As a scientist, her clear vision and determination enabled her to overcome boundaries and open up new paths.
