Michael Krell (Research Associate) as an expert at a Council of Europe conference on press freedom
At a Council of Europe conference in Strasbourg, Michael Krell, Research Associate at the Chair of Human Geography, spoke about the negative impact on press freedom caused by attacks on journalists in Saxony by right-wing extremist stakeholders. This took place in the course of the Council of Europe's campaign to protect press freedom, which aims to secure the position of journalists and free reporting by developing political guidelines in Europe. One part of the campaign deals with attacks on journalists by right-wing extremist stakeholders, which usually occur on the fringes of demonstrations. This problem became particularly prevalent during the coronavirus protests, which led to a drastic increase in anti-press violence, as Klemens Köhler's contribution to the anthology Sächsische Realitäten, edited by Michael Krell and Tom Böhme, shows. If you are more interested in the topic, you are cordially invited to listen to the episode of the podcast "Europe Explained", in which Klemens Lotze (freelance journalist from Saxony), Klemens Köhler (founder of the Saxon press protection initiative Between the Lines) and Michael Krell talk about the danger of right-wing extremist attacks on press freedom in Saxony.
