Ratios of freshwater pearl mussels moving from a start habitat they were placed in to an actively chosen habitat after 10 weeks
Eissenhauer at al. show that freashwater pearl mussels (Margaritifera margaritifera) can actively emigrate from unsuitable microhabitats. Their recommendation for introducing or relocating mussels is after identifying suitable streams with respect to physical, chemical, and biological quality, it is necessary to identify suitable mesohabitats (area of 10–30 m2).
