How do I recognize an RDM solution when it is in front of me?
A research group always has a solution for its research data management (RDM) when it consciously and systematically handles research data in its everyday work. A RDM solution is not about the latest tool, the most comprehensive documents, the most complex IT architecture or an additional administrative work, but simply about a flexible practice that constantly adapts to new requirements.
In order to present this RDM practice to new team members (onboarding), to visualize processes or to communicate the handling of research data to funding institutions (e.g. in the context of research proposals), it is helpful to create a data management concept. This short document records their RDM practice in writing, making it tangible and usable. However, as soon as new challenges, opportunities or requirements arise in your RDM practice, targeted RDM measures (RDM projects) may become necessary. The Service Center Research Data will be happy to support you in analyzing requirements, identifying solutions, accompanying changes or validating your own ideas and approaches with you.
The holistic approach has proven its worth here: Four central aspects (IT systems, conceptual measures, resources and responsibilities as well as competencies) are always considered together for an RDM measure. This results in realistic solutions that can be integrated into your research practice and promote the conscious and systematic handling of research data.
