In the Schaufler Kolleg@TU Dresden, the PhD candidates are actively involved in shaping the thematic focus of the Lab and play a pivotal role in communicating its topics to the University and the wider society. All of the doctoral students receive support for their dissertation project by two supervisors from different disciplines. The graduate education includes interdisciplinary research seminars that draw on current directions in fields such as science & technology studies (STS) and critical data studies, site- and practice-based engagements with data worlds in innovative research studios and field schools, as well as general doctoral qualification training that supports the early career researchers in successfully mastering their doctoral phase specifically tailored for the next steps in their career. In addition, we offer a mentoring program that seeks to liaison doctoral students with researchers in STEM subjects at TU Dresden.
In the second project phase Data ↔ Worlds, doctoral students from a range of fields including politics, urban and environmental planning, law, theology, literature, art history, and design investigate the material and social infrastructures, as well as the societal and planetary implications, of the growing presence of data-driven technologies. Please check the Experiments section for further information on various research activities the Kolleg participants have engaged in so far.
