A Franco-German dialog

Plakat zu Gespräch & Buchvorstellung Hélène Miard-Delacroix/Andreas Wirsching "Von Erbfeinden zu guten Nachbarn. Ein deutsch-französischer Dialog" am 8. Juni 2022.
February 2022 marked the thirtieth anniversary of the Maastricht Treaty. In light of this and this year's presidential election in France, we took a closer look at Franco-German relations. From today's perspective, it seems hard to imagine that the two countries repeatedly clashed in brutal conflicts, for example in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 or in the First and Second World Wars. Thanks to the efforts of numerous people on both sides, the two nations found a friendly relationship after 1945. Last but not least, the history of Franco-German relations is a history of political couples - from Helmut Kohl and François Mitterrand to Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron.
Based on their jointly published book "Von Erbfeinden zu guten Nachbarn. Ein deutsch-französischer Dialog" (Reclam 2019), French historian Hélène Miard-Delacroix, who teaches at the Sorbonne in Paris, and her German colleague Andreas Wirsching, Director of the Institute of Contemporary History Munich - Berlin, explained the eventful history of a unique neighborhood and discussed how important knowledge of the shared past is for Franco-German cooperation in the EU of the 21st century.
In cooperation with the literature prize "Hommage à la France" of the Brigitte Schubert-Oustry Foundation, the Institute français Dresden and the Dresden Municipal Libraries.
Admission was free.
