Crimp connections
Feasability study on increasing the life-span of crimp connections by using a novel press technology
Copper crimped connections are found in a variety of applications in over-head lines. In a joint project between the TU Dresden and the Fraunhofer IKTS Dresden a non-destructive diagnostic method will be developed for the detection of cracks that need repairing. At the IFWW the results of non-destructive tests will be verified with metallographic investigations (figure 1). At the same time long term electrical and thermal measurements on crimp connections will be made by the IEEH.
