Technical Center Fiber-reinforced Plastic Composites

Production of a GF/PP demonstrator unit from multilayered knitted fabrics on a COLLIN P300 PV laboratory press at the ITM
The modern equipment of the Fiber-Plastic-Composite pilot plant of the ITM offers excellent conditions for the further processing of conventional and ITM-developed 2D and 3D textile structures and preforms, customized regarding processing and application requirements, into fiber-reinforced plastic composites, primarily based on thermoset and thermoplastic matrix systems.

Small wind turbine rotor blade with textile-structure-integrated sensors for locally resolved online component monitoring in operation, produced by vacuum infusion
The available technical equipment is used for the production of test slabs or test samples, up to and including the realization of complex demonstrators or components with integrated additional functions. Various devices and plants are on-hand for this, allowing for instance the use of vacuum injection, RTM, or thermopressing, including:
- Nodopur VS mixing and dosage plant, and
- COLLIN P300 PV laboratory press
This allows ITM researchers to participate in efforts concerning the development of high-performance textile reinforcement structures for fiber-reinforced plastic composites for versatile applications and on a high level, to the stages of consolidated composite or component demonstrator.
