Agile working method
The development of the teaching strategy is based on an agile working method similar to the SCRUM method. The aim was for TUD members from all status groups to spend ten months, in addition to their day-to-day work, working on proposals for the development of teaching. The sprint structure developed included individual and collaborative online work phases (LMS OPAL) as well as joint discussions either online or in person (max. 60 minutes).
In addition, feedback loops were established with the wider university public in order to include additional perspectives on the developed proposals. A total of 30 proposals were devised for the development of teaching at TUD. They range from the development of a set of core competencies for the entire university, to the attempt to create space for teaching development, to integrating teaching support structures more strongly into teaching.
TU Dresden began a process of transforming and restructuring its teaching 15 years ago. The focus is on questions of teaching design and also which content, structures and processes need to be adapted in order to align teaching with the requirements of a leading global university of the 21st century. What are the key aspects of teaching and teaching development at the university? These questions were addressed in the development of a vision for teaching and described and substantiated in the university-wide teaching mission statement.
The sTUDies 3.0 teaching strategy project aims to strategically implement the strengths and potential identified for future development in everyday teaching and learning. The result was adopted as a university-wide teaching strategy for the University of Excellence TU Dresden at the end of 2024. This should also serve as an important unique selling point in communication for the university's recruitment of students, teaching staff and employees.
