Leadership change in the topic network MatWerk at acatech

Professor Christoph Leyens is elected to be speaker for the topic network Material Science and Engineering (MatWerk) of the National Academy of Science and Engineering.
The newly designated speaker of the topic network Material Science and Engineering (MAtWerk) of the Naterional Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) is Prof. Christoph Leyens from the Institute for Materials Science at the TU Dresden (the acatech executive committee must still needs to formally make the appointment). Prof. Leyens is the successor to Prof. Christina Berger of the TU Darmstadt, who will continue in an active role as the deputy speaker. Acatech currently has 10 topic networks, which serve as specialist network platforms for science and industry in and outside the academy. The topic networks bundle the expert knowledge inside acatech and prepare amongst other things position papers for themes relevant to society with the goal of providing advice to politics.

Acatech with its collective specialist knowledge can support politics and society to go in the best direction so that Germany’s affluence is assured in the future«

According to the German Ministry for Education and Research » the majority of all technical innovations [..] direct or indirect can be linked to new or improved materials, which consequently have an outstanding importance and key function within the economic landscape of Germany«.The Dresden research landscape with its distinguished universities and non-university protagonists will in future also set important impulses in the area of material science and engineering as well as in production engineering.
